Chelsea was beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night, while Cole Palmer scored a world-class blues goal at Allianz Arena

Harry Kane stuck to his pre-match promise by Bayern Munich earning a key double to inflict pain on longtime rival Chelsea. The former Tottenham striker said before the match he enjoys coming towards people he doesn’t like much: Chelsea supporters, and the England captain scored Bayern’s second and third goals in Munich to get a perfect start in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea remains injured in his head despite having some positive moments at the Allianz Arena. Cole Palmer was a major positive from a Chelsea perspective, with the England international score returning to the game 2-1 with a world-class finish. The Blues star also saw the second goal in the second half, which was ruled out by Var after he was considered offside.

Enzo Maresca made four changes from the team he drew with Brentford over the weekend. The Blues lineup is almost identical – the injured Levi Colwill was replaced by Tosin Adarabioyo, and five of the starting XI had made their Champions League debuts in the final of the Club World Cup 66 days ago, but it didn’t seem threatened by the grandeur of the biggest stages of club football.

Malo Gusto was one of them, and the right-back managed to violate Bayern’s defense early. As they did against PSG in July, Chelsea launched a long ball towards speedy joy. However, Pedro Neto, who debuted in the competition, did not make full use of Gusto’s cross.

Chelsea had many successes early on by attacking the right flank, and Enzo Fernandez nearly broke the deadlock after Palmer chose an unmarked colleague in Bayern’s penalty area.

However, following an actionable delivery from right-winger Michael Oris, when Trevo Charova passed his goalkeeper and deflected the ball, the first one to attack was the German giant.

That fortune stroke energised the Allianz Arena hosts as Kane expanded their advantages from 12 yards after Three Lions Skipper was defeated in the area by the Reccedless Moises Caiceto Tackle.

“No Cold Palmer, Munich’s floor is lava!” At a capacity of 75,000, Bavarian fans declared a flag raised, but the philosophical lava soon approached the 30-minute mark.

Palmer made a great effort in the top corner to round out a sublime counterattack from visitors and reduce the deficit. The 23-year-old celebrated Chelsea’s 100th outing by netting his 45th strike for the club.

Prior to Palmer’s goal, Joanne Pedro was defeated by Jonathan Tar. This is the incident that absolutely infuriated Maresca as a side job. The official had the words with the Italian before swinging the yellow card around for his objection.

It seemed that Maresca had tried again as Palmer tried to carry Chelsea on his shoulder while Bruce was searching for a leveler for Bayern. Sadly, it proved beyond Palmer’s ability. The German Titans took advantage of Chelsea’s loose play to extend their lead to 3-1 after an hour.

Gusto carelessly lost ownership, Bayern seized the opportunity, and Kane offered a top tier finish to the bottom corner. Bayern stuck to kick off their Champions League journey with style, but Chelsea is under pressure two weeks later ahead of a clash with Benfica.

Below, Bobby Vincent evaluates the Chelsea team based on their performance in Munich.

Robert Sanchez-7

You can’t really blame your goals. He stripped off a massive save on the 60-minute mark to stop Ollise.

Malo Gusto-6

Just like in the Club World Cup final two months ago, Gusto found a room on his right flank. Chelsea’s strategy clearly supports the French for the long ball. We support Palmer’s goals. Kane’s second case isn’t that impressive.

Trevoh Chalobah -4

A small disaster against Bayern’s opening goal – carelessly turning it into his own net. That’s a bit unlucky, especially considering Toshin Adarabioyo is involved in his goal.

Toshin Adarabioyo – 4

He does not benefit from Charoba’s own goals. Toshin ignored the ball when he could potentially clear it, and Charoba was on the brunt.

Marc Cucurella -7

I was jealous every time he got the ball. It didn’t bother him at all. The Chelsea pantomime villain is more than he’s used to it now.

Reese James-6

There were some really positive moments at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield, but he may not have owned as much ball as he likes.

Moises Caicedo -6

He clumsyly defeated Kane for the penalty. He supported Palmer’s goals and was somewhat reded in his mid-length efforts.

Cole Palmer-8

Deployed on his right flank, he scored an incredible goal in the first half, bringing Chelsea back into the game.

Enzo Fernandez-5

He should have done better with the early opportunity Palmer provided. It wasn’t his best performance in the 10th place role.

Pedro Neto -4

He struggled on the left and failed to make a significant contribution when Chelsea was under attack.

Joao Pedro -5

Despite some nice touches, he was playing against the very physical Jonathan Tah in the first half. The Brazilians sometimes outperformed the Germans, but found more success in the small Kim Min-jae family. Mixed night for Chelsea forwards.

Andrei Santos (painted under for James of 68′) -6

Despite the challenging circumstances, he was fine.

Alejandro Garnacho (outed down for Neto at 68′) -5

He had a hard time joining his left flank.

Estevao Willian (on under 81′ for Fernandez) – N/A

He didn’t have enough time to make a big impact.
