Marcus Rashford spoke out after helping Barcelona secure a 2-1 victory at Newcastle in the Champions League. The 27-year-old, on loan at Manchester United’s Barca, was named Man of the Match after producing the best performance ever for the Spanish giants.
Rashford joined Barcelona for the Red Devils in July following a difficult spell at Old Trafford. The Winger endured tough shapes during his final two seasons in Manchester and was rented out to Aston Villa later in the final campaign. Despite his new team having scored 13 goals and remaining unbeaten with four La Liga encounters open, he was unable to find the back of the net in Barca’s first four matches. However, he was in his best condition when he returned to England on Thursday, with Barcelona returning all three points to Spain with them.
Following his illustrious performance at St. James Park, Rashford was quized about the early parts of Barcelona’s career when he spoke to TNT Sports.
And England International argued: “It works. I’m obviously learning a lot. It’s a new way of football, but I enjoy it all and I think it makes me a better player.
“That’s what I’m here. I’m here not only here to win, but to improve and become the best I can.
“It’s an amazing experience. I’ve always been a huge admirer of Barcelona. Most people of my age have seen them play since we were younger. It’s great football, great players and we just want to win as much as possible.”
He continued. “Fans want the team to win and play good football. This isn’t an easy place to play football. I know that first-hand. The first half was very caged.
“It’s very difficult to play against this team. I’m really happy that we managed to win.”
Rashford’s second goal was a rocket, with the winger unleashing the poisonous efforts by Newcastle Keeper Nick Pope past the outside of the box.
And discussing the strike, he explained: “It was a moment. I felt there was a gap. I could see a far post from the corner of my eye. I tried to get the shot to be shot. Their players were trying to block it, so I tried to lift it up a bit.
“I tried to aim high, but when I caught it, I knew the keeper was doing it to stop it.”
He added: “I’m full of excitement. I’m very motivated and determined. The quality that I have on my team makes me excited by myself. It’s so refreshing to play with these people. The team is very young and I play with the confidence and understanding of the game.”
