Aston Villa signed Harvey Elliott on loan from Liverpool on transfer deadline as part of a deal that includes an obligation to buy for £35 million next summer.
Harvey Elliott only had two games to score his first goal since leaving Liverpool. The midfielder has moved his transfer deadline to Aston Villa on a day loan. Aston Villa will be obligated to sign the player permanently for £35 million during the next summer transfer period.
Elliott returned from an international break for his Premier League club debut when he played Everton last weekend. His second appearance continued quickly on Tuesday evening as Villa acquired Brentford in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The 22-year-old talent was on the scoresheet smartly on a strike just before halftime. John McGinn confiscated the opposition defender, allowing his new colleague to latch onto the loose ball and slot the finish under Brentford goalkeeper Hakon Valdimerson.

Unfortunately for Elliott, his new side was unable to maintain their advantage and ultimately lost a penalty shootout after Aaron Hickey equalised in the 90 minutes. Matty Cash and McGinn missed Villa and Elliott wasn’t one of the five takers.

Of his former Reds teammates, Tyler Morton provided the most encouragement. The midfielder, who left Anfield for Lyon this summer, replied, “What a man.”
Those who liked social media posting included current Liverpool players Cody Gakupo, Curtis Jones, Hugo Ekitique, Jeremy Fripon, Kaide Gordon, Rio Nugumoha, Ryan Gravenberch, Trey Nyoni, Virgil van Dik, Weitz-Slav Jaros and Wataru Endo. Several former red people who have moved in recent years, including Caoimhin Kelleher, Luis Diaz, Naby Keita and Trent Alexander-Arnold, also liked the post.
For the Villa, Elliott’s arrival appears to be perfectly timed. Despite the exit of the cup, they marked their first goal in competitive action for the 2025/26 season.
Liverpool will monitor the British progress as the British could benefit even more from moving players. As part of the deadline transfer agreement, the Reds included both a sell-on clause and a buy-back clause.
That means Liverpool can benefit even more from future players. It’s either when another club buys him or if his development impresses something enough to trigger a bid to bring him back to Anfield.
