Reuben Amorim has three games that turn things around with Manchester United.
Reuben Amorim hasn’t reached Manchester United’s manager for a year and is already under a lot of pressure on his job.
United’s 3-0 defeat by Manchester City on Sunday has seen a new wave of doubt in his future in that role. The losses not only waived local bragging rights, but also marked United’s worst start to the season since 1992/93, leaving Amorim’s record with eight wins from 31 Premier League matches since arriving last November.
Wayne Rooney is one of the famous names that openly question Amorim’s position, with the team scoring four points from four games in the league and being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League 2 Grimsby.
Miller Football understands that Amorim is losing confidence in some of the senior players, and the following three games are very important: United host Chelsea took place on Saturday at Old Trafford, with a trip to Brentford and a home counter with newly promoted Sunderland, before a two-week international break.
If these games don’t go to the plan, United could consider dismissing the Portuguese boss at the international break in October. Here we look at Bookies’ favorites for work and assess their suitability.

Oliver Glasner
The Crystal Palace manager has recently honed his reputation by turning his side into a highly organized and efficient machine. He led the palace to the FA Cup in May. This is a historic achievement that should have led them into the Europa League.
The Austrians work with close teams to almost spin and do their best. One thing that didn’t escape the United hierarchy is that he plays a tactical system that is very similar to what Amorim is trying to implement. If they pull the trigger on the Amorim, it can ensure a smooth transition. Glasner threatened to step down at the palace over Mark Guech’s proposal to sell to Liverpool, which is likely to continue the 3-4-2-1 formation.
But looking at it in a different way, it can be a problem. One of the biggest concerns about Amorim is how he is married to the defense of the three. In other words, they field Captain Bruno Fernandez in the middle of the two. It may be pointless to hire a new boss who joins the same philosophy.
Michael Carrick
The former Manchester United midfielder will be available after losing his job in Middlesbrough in June. The 44-year-old was in the ramblings for two and a half years, but left after failing to reach the Championship playoffs last season.
Carrick was previously the interim boss of United between Jose Mourinho’s departure and All Gunnard Sorskier’s arrival, and served as caretaker after the Norwegian was fired. After spending 12 years as a player at the club and most of his retirement as a coach at United, it didn’t take him long to settle in Carrington and Old Trafford. He will be a popular choice among fans.
However, there is no doubt that it represents United raising the ladder from the rag and championship.
Gareth Southgate
Southgate has not been in business since resigning as England’s manager last summer. He’s not someone who doesn’t know he’s linked to United’s work, which he’s previously on Ineos’ radar. Ir Jim Ratcliffe is a Southgate fan and he was considered before Amorim took over from Eric Teng Hug last year.
The 55-year-old won praise for his work with England, where he developed a strong relationship with the players and became a good communicator. After eight years in the three-man Lions hot seat, he ordered the respect of the United team.
But there is a questionable point about his long absence from club football. This is a completely different job than the job of an international boss. Southgate ended in 2009 after only managing Middlesbrough before. He has only worked in the free agency ever since.
Marco Silva
Silva has led Fulham since 2021 after stints at Everton, Watford and Hull. That lifespan shows how much his work is valued in West London, behind only Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.
The Portuguese is a pragmatist whose aspects are structured and organizational, and is not afraid to adapt his game plan to suit his enemies. He may be able to recall United’s improved short-term results, but he may have doubts about his long-term progression.
Silva has now worked on the mid-table Premier League side for quite some time, and while there is arguing that it is exactly what United have become, Ineo may be wary of his ambitious appointments.
Mauricio Pockettino
Previously linked to United’s work and had worshippers within the club, but the proposal was made by the left field. Pockettino is currently the US head coach and is preparing to host the World Cup next year, so it’s unlikely to jump over and over into Premier League club football.
Pockettino’s reputation has taken the dent as Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea spells have not been resolved since their success at Tottenham. He has been under pressure from USMNT recently, and stepping into Old Trafford’s glare may not seem like a good idea for Argentina.
At his peak, Pockettino’s Southampton and Spurs sides were famous for their high-strength press and front-foot football. The idea may now appeal to United, but for a while, that has not been evidenced from the Pockettino team.
