Manchester United’s new boy Benjamin Sesco couldn’t influence the start of the first Premier League against Manchester City, and Rio Ferdinand left the game with concern

Rio Ferdinand has admitted that Benjamin Sesco is “worried” about his quiet start at Manchester United after seeing the club’s new striker feed scraps during the Manchester Derby on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Sesko, the club’s biggest summer transfer period acquisition, took part in a deal worth £73.7 million from RB Leipzig. However, while Slovenia International was introduced leading the Red Devils’ new look attack, United fans saw little of the new No. 9. Unfortunately for United and Sesco, it was not a game to remember that the strikers didn’t have a chance to make a note in the lost game 3-0.

After struggling with goals, Reuben Amorim’s team heads for a new season behind the worst Premier League campaign ever. And while more than £200 million has been spent on the top area of the pitch trying to address the issue, Ferdinand has realised that Sesco has to work in the Derby.

Speaking about his Rio Ferdinand, the podcast presents, with the former United and England defender saying:

“That’s the concern. You have to think about a new striker coming to the football club, getting into the team and creating opportunities for him. You have to think about taking him to the end of things.

“That’s something I think I’ll have to look at and fix it right away. I don’t want to think about what it is.”

United struggled to gather many of the offensive threats until City killed the game and switched to cruise control. The overall performance was a tough viewing for Ferdinand, who was not impressed by the “weak” displays of his old club.

“It’s depressing to see United like that,” Ferdinand continued. “The way we allowed them to participate and achieve their goals and get opportunities – it was weak, powder puffs, lacking anything.

“I was in the first half, we pushed them very well, and we owned at times (but) we were the last third, and we were zero creativity. But there’s no real sin.”

United scored four points after opening four points, which is the worst start of the season since the 1992-93 campaign. And as he leaves what he’s seen so far, Ferdinand admits that a top six finish is already unlikely.

He added: “If I sit here now and ask, ‘Where will Man United finish?’, maybe the sixth or seventh time, I’ll be happy with it this season. It looks like a long shot of this moment. ”
