Manchester United is the worst performance aspect of the Premier League since Reuben Amorim took over as manager. United were hit 3-0 by Manchester City in the Derby on Sunday, highlighting once again how much they fell.
Two clinical finishes from Phil Foden’s Header and Ehling Haaland made the city easier to win at Etihad Stadium and claimed bragging rights. United were totally out of nowhere and could not get their own gold leaf edge chances to set goals of comfort.
Amorim is under pressure. Amorim has been working for up to a year and has not managed to impose his identity on the team. United have spent more than £200 million on their summer transfer windows to sign Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens, but have yet to see profits.
They were 14th in the Premier League table and scored four points from the opening four games. Their only victory was courtesy of a late penalty over Burnley, and they lost to Arsenal and drew alongside Fulham in the other matches.

These results are merely a continuation of last season’s form when United finished 15th. Four points in the four games have been the worst start for the club of the season since 1992/93, and Amorim has been the statistically worst manager in the Premier League since joining on November 24th.
Statistician Opta has since created league tables for the 17 clubs that have been in the division, uniting with 31 points from 31 games. That’s on the level with Tottenham, but the Spurs have a target difference of -4 to United’s -13, making them rock bottoms.
Amorim has won eight of his 31 league matches since he arrived to replace Eric 10 Hug last season. And their tally of pathetic points is worse than West Ham (34), Wolves (36) and Fulham (41).
Not surprisingly, Liverpool is at the top of this theory table with 68 points ahead of Arsenal (64), Chelsea (58) and Manchester City (54).
Amorim is forced to protect himself in the aftermath of another harmful defeat. “Guys, I understand that and I’ll accept it,” he said after Sunday’s defeat to City. “That’s not a record you should have at Manchester United. There’s a lot of stuff – you don’t know what happened in these months – but I’ll accept that. I won’t change.
“When I want to change my philosophy, I change. Otherwise, you have to change the guy. We talk about all the games we lose. I don’t believe in it, the systems, etc.
“My message is that I’m going to give it everything. I’m always thinking about what’s best for the club. It’s always the same message. It’s not my decision, it’s not the rest (United Change Manager or not). I’ll do my best until I’m here.
