Rasmus Hojlund made his debut for Napoli on Saturday, taking just 14 minutes to score his first league goal.

Manchester United fans feel the club is “cursed” after it took Rasmus Hozilund less than 15 hours to score on his Napoli debut. Hojlund, 22, joined the Italian champion on an in-season loan in the final knock of the summer transfer period as he was pushed down his pecking order at Old Trafford.

The Danish striker was not included in Reuben Amorim’s team for four matches before leaving on the deadline day. United agreed to a fee of up to £73.7 million for Slovenia International Cesco and Amorim, and were pleased to have him and Joshua Zirkusie choose ahead of time.

Napoli suffered a thigh injury in the preseason and was planning to spend the next two or three months on the sidelines, requiring a replacement for former red demon striker Romell Lukaku. The winner of the Serie A title has paid a £5 million loan fee and is obliged to permanently sign Hozilund if he qualifies for the Champions League, and is already in place with a £38 million contract.

United lenders previously performed in Italy for Atalanta, where he convinced the Red Devils to kick out the first £64 million for his signature two years ago. Hozilund scored his first goal of the season in place of Denmark’s 3-0 victory over Greece during an international break.

He returned his shooting boots to Napoli and won the net in just 14 minutes on Saturday’s trip to Fiorentina, making it 2-0. Antonio Conte’s team drove off the 3-1 winner, with former Manchester City star Kevin De Bruni also on the scoresheet.

He scored in Champions League matches, but United fans had to wait 1,027 minutes for Hodglund to finally notch his first Premier League goal on Boxing Day 2023.

“The goal of the debut, UTD, is cursed,” fans said. Second lament: “Has Hozilund scored on his debut? Wow, we are cursed.” Third lament: “We are really cursed.” Another person asked: “So, is the question Manchester United?”

After the match, Conte welcomed his new striker and joked that Napoli had signed Hoilund because Scott McTominai, who came from Old Trafford last season, had been successful. “Hozilund was only 22 years old and took him from Manchester United. That’s what we saw as good luck with Mukutominai,” the Naples boss told Sky Sports Italy.

“We knew his qualities. He has great potential and he can improve. We know that he is a young man with great prospects.”
