Arne Slot admits that Liverpool was “lucky” after Mohamed Salah’s final Gasp penalty came out in the Burnley promotion.

The Reds were heading for a goalless draw when Hannibal Maebli handled a cross from Jeremy Fripon in the area, giving Sarah the chance to record five minutes and clear the 3-point side of the slot.

Liverpool controlled the ownership, but the £125 million man, Alexander Isaac, went missing and struggled to create a chance.

Slot states: “It was probably something that was expected to draw the whole game, but we brought all the players we could attack onto the pitch and we tried to ultimately get six or seven.

“I don’t know if that has anything to do with scoring a goal, but we created a penalty and it was just before a big opportunity from Jeremy.

Explaining Isaac’s absence, Slot states:

“Alex is not ready for a 90-minute, three-game schedule in a week, and will be able to play at least 45 or a little more on either Wednesday or Saturday.

“But if he plays 45 on Wednesday, don’t expect him to play more than 45 on Saturday, as in our opinion his body isn’t prepared for it.”

Burnley lost the injury time penalty last time at Manchester United, but boss Scott Parker saw midfielder Leslie Ugochukw late sending two bookable crimes out, “It’s heartbreaking how the game ends for us.”

“In the dying minutes, two games decide two penalties. They decide the game. It’s tough, but that’s this league.

“It’s probably a penalty. What we learn from that for us is that we probably need to train our defenders to put their arms on our backs.”
