Roy Keene was fiercely critical of Manchester United defender Luke Shaw in a 3-0 derby-day defeat to Manchester City at Etihad on Sunday. The show was beaten by tricky Jeremy Doc in a build-up to Phil Foden’s opening goal in the 18th minute. The show began on the left side of Reuben Amorim’s back 3 and rose from the Belgian, but was unable to stop the winger from passing him and dribbling into the box.
After Manuel Ugarte blocked Doc’s first attempt to line up with Foden in the penalty area, the city’s midfielder led the header to a far corner from the second cross. And, angry, Keene blamed the first goal straight at the foot of the show. He stated in his halftime analysis of the Sky Sports Panel:
“It’s a good skill (from Doc), but Shaw is an English international player who has hundreds of games under his belt. He doesn’t get his body right. It’s too easy. It seems he threw the towel.
“But my goodness is that even before that, two midfielders are square. One pass takes them out. Just one midfielder goes, the other is easy.
Commenting on the Sky Sports match, Keene’s former United teammate Gary Neville said, “It was the perfect day for Phil Foden to reintroduce himself. The question asked for the club and the country. Foden just needs to lead the header.
“The first job from Doc is absolutely fantastic. The ball gets back to his feet and brings the ball back into a really good area. It was a really good move from the city. Doc got off to a really good start to the game.”
Shaw was able to place the city’s second goal after Ehring Haaland raced behind the United backline. The Norwegians easily held back England’s left back, doubled the advantages of the hosts and lifted them over the Altai Bay Indielle.
Haaland went 3-0 in the 68th minute, with Diree United Devending giving the center forward plenty of time and space with one VS-One with Bayindir. It ended with the match leaving United, with 4 points, 14th in the table, with City rising from 12 to 8th with 6 points.
