Jack Grelish’s dream start at Everton continued after being selected as the official player of the month in the Premier League in August. Grealish, 30, joined Toffee on loan from Manchester City in the summer transfer window after Pep Guardiola revealed he was no longer part of his plan.

The former Aston Villa star made a cameo during the opening game to Leeds in the opening game of Everton’s season, then launched his first home match with the new £800 million stadium. Grealish set both goals as David Moyes’ side defeated Brighton 2-0, and got two more assists the following weekend in a 3-2 victory over the Wolves.

His performance wasn’t enough to win him an English call from Thomas Touchel, but they saw him crowned the player for August this month. To win the award, as voted by fans, Grealish dodged the competition with seven other players who also enjoyed the new season of Brightstart.

Liverpool duo Hugo Echicickey and Dominique Schuboschlei have been selected as Arsenal defender Ricardo Calafiori, Crystal Palace’s Guech, city striker Erling Haaland, Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Bournemouth forward Antwein Semeño.

The prize was presented by Andy Castell, creator of Everton fans and Finch Farm’s online content. Toffees teammate and summer buddy Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was the first to tell Grealish, who celebrated his 30th birthday on Wednesday, that he was the winner.

Before this week, the 39-cap England International never won the Premier League Player of the Month Award. “The first one, the companion,” Grelish shines after Dewsbury Hall handed him the trophy.

“I actually thought you were winding me up too… I have a very speech to be fair.”

Moys admits that Grelish is better than he thought, saying after his victory over the wolves.

“So all the credit to him. He’s playing minutes that he may not have had in recent years. He’s really good. What Jack has given us is that it’s on the edge of creativity and perhaps on the edge of scoring.”

Tuchel was asked why he didn’t call Grealish, why he left Trent Alexander Arnold of Real Madrid from his latest England team, why before the international break. “I’m definitely a big fan of Trent and Jack Grelish,” replied the three Lions bosses.

“Big players, big personalities, I’m always in the mix. I know they’re both desperate, but in this camp I decided to do it for Lassy (Marcus Rashford) and EBS (Ebebeki Eze). The competition continues.”
