The FA fined Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis after more than 2,200 bets were placed at football games over four years before moving to the EFL.
Walsall player Jamie Jellis has been banned for five months after sanctioning a crime of betting by the Football Association (FA). The midfielder placed 2,248 bets on soccer matches between April 30, 2019 and July 4, 2023.
The ban was suspended for 12 months after the former Tamworth midfielder granted the charges. The FA’s statement stated: “The independent regulatory board has approved Jamie Jellis of Walsall for fraudulent conduct in relation to violation of the FA’s betting rules.
“It is said that the midfielder violated FA Rule E1(b) by placing 2,248 bets on a football match between April 30, 2019 and July 4, 2023. He later admitted the charges.

Walsall responded to the ruling in its own statement posted on the club’s website. “The FA has issued the following statement regarding Jamie Jellis: “The independent regulatory board has approved Jamie Jellis of Walsall for fraud in connection with violations of the FA’s betting rules.
“It was allegedly that the midfielder violated FA Rule E1(b) by placing 2,248 bets on a football match between April 30, 2019 and July 4, 2023, and the regulatory board has since imposed a five-month suspension from all football and soccer-related activities.
“We would like to thank PFA for supporting Jamie and the club during this process. The club will not comment further on this issue.”
The suspension comes after two other EFL players are charged with similar betting crimes. Lewis Macari of Notts County and Osman Foyo of AFC Wimbledon were both charged in the summer.
