Pep Guardiola talks about his future in Manchester City ahead of Sunday’s derby against Manchester United at Etihad
Pep Guardiola has made it clear he will be leaving Manchester City when he felt the club needed a change, but he is not ready to leave yet. Guardiola has been with Etihad since 2016, and last season was the club’s first without a trophy since his first campaign.
However, he ended his upcoming future speculation in November by signing a new contract that will run until 2027. Catalonia previously expressed interest in managing international football later in his career, but for now he has no plans to leave City despite a poor start to the season.
Advances Sunday’s derby with Manchester United, he said: “I said (in the future) I don’t know what will happen. The outcome will determine the position and I have to make a good season.

“When I feel like the club needs a change, I don’t stay, but now I feel like I want to do it after what happened last season.
“I’m not saying I’m not just about doing it in the past, I’m looking forward to it.
“When I first joined and signed for three years, I never expected to stay for 10 years. I’m very proud of that. I want to help the team, the club many times.”
All conquering sides of Guardiola, dominated by four consecutive Premier League titles, finished third last season. They also were shocked at the final 16 exit from the FIFA Club World Cup at the hands of Saudi Arabia’s Al Hillal, losing two of the opening games of the season.
Gianluigi donnarumma was the final summer signature at 7th place on the deadline day, bringing his total spending to £185.8 million. This is a summer transition, and many experienced stars are also leaving.
And looking back at the summer overhaul, Guardiola said:
“Eddie helped us create this club as a special method for the best decade. Gund and Manu are one of my best signatures for the club. I hope that’s the best because we’ve become us for a variety of reasons.
“Eddie wanted to try a new experience, so the market gave us the opportunity to take Gigi (Donnarma). He’s 26 years old with incredible experience.”
We were asked if the change brought back memories of his first arrival at the club in 2016. He said: “I had hair back then. Ten years is a long time.
“The club has helped us take the first steps to change over the years. Every club is constantly changing, changing 10 players in four five months requires everything to be resolved, fixed and consistent.
“We’re still doing a lot (good) things, but we need to be more consistent than ever before, but we need to do it step by step.”
