Ecuador finished the World Cup Qualifying Campaign with a 1-0 victory over Argentina in a match that included two red cards and a debate between Piero Hincapie and Alexis Mac Alistair.
Arsenal defender Piero Hincapy introduced himself to Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Alistair during his energetic exchange in World Cup qualifying.
Hincapee has joined Bayer Leverkusen’s gunner on an in-season loan with an option that will make the trade permanent for £45 million next summer. He is the last of Arsenal’s eighth summer additions, and has not yet made his debut, only sealing his move at the transfer deadline.
After signing, the 23-year-old soon heads out of London to South America, where he plays for Ecuador in the last two World Cup qualifiers. After a 0-0 draw with Paraguay, the Ecuadorian campaign reached a dramatic conclusion at the Estadio monumental monument in Guayaquil.
Ecuador completed the amazing campaign by beating Argentina 1-0 thanks to Enna Valencia’s penalty. That led them to finish second in South American qualifying, above Giants Brazil, who came in fifth.

Chelsea midfielder Moises Kayseko was sent to Ecuador after Benfica’s Nicholas Otamendi was also marched orders. Argentina already guaranteed a top spot in qualifying and dominating the group, and Ecuador had already booked their place at the 2026 World Cup, but that didn’t stop it.
Argentine star Mac Alistair stood up to Hincapie after a hefty challenge to his teammate Franco Mustantouno during the time of injury. The furious Liverpool midfielder screamed in his opponent’s face, shaking his fingers before running into a brawl.
Hincapy appeared to protest his innocence and escaped the punishment from the judge. The incident did not sparkle the Ecuadorian victory in Hincapy, who was celebrated by posting a photo of him celebrating Valencia’s penalty with the caption “Best”.
Given that Liverpool faced Arsenal just before the international break, there will not be a reunion with the Mac Allister anytime soon. The Reds have made their Premier League title rivals better at Anfield thanks to Dominique Schizobosilai’s stunning free kick and won’t see them again in the league until January 7th.
Hincapee is hoping to go with his new club, and has been focusing on silverware with Arsenal this season, lifting the Bundesliga Trophy with Lebakusen in 2024.
