Reuben Amorim has made one of his biggest decisions as Manchester United manager, dropping Andre Onana to the bench before signing new goalkeeper Sen Lammens
Manchester United are all involved in Reuben Amorim, and Andre Onana’s impending departure proves that. That’s the opinion of United legend Rio Ferdinand, who is pleased to see the club backing the manager’s decision.
Amorim made a “big statement” by dropping 29-year-old Onana at the start of the season and setting up Altai Bayindeal as his new first-choice goalkeeper. However, following Bayindir’s string of mistakes in the Premier League, United decided to introduce new goalkeepers at the transfer deadline, hoping to completely resolve their problems.
The Red Devils arrived from Royal Antwerp as they agreed to pay the first £18.2 million and £3.5 million with the potential add-on. With the arrival of Ranmen, Onana decides to leave.
Cameroon International plans to finalize its land in Türkiye within the next 24 hours and its seasonal loans into Trabzonspor. According to Ferdinand, the way things pan out is sufficient evidence that Old Trafford’s hierarchy is fully supportive of Amorim.
“I was delighted that the manager had decided on things and that the recruitment team was running behind it,” Ferdinand told the email. “They are helping their managers.

“If you think you have any doubts about your manager or Amorim supporting your club or Amorim who supports being in a football club, then it is his decision whether Onana will stay or Ranmen will come in. That’s a great indication in that respect.
“It doesn’t matter if you think Onana should stay. The manager gave his heart a go. He played Beyindil early on and said he was there for football reasons. It was a big statement from the manager and his intentions for what he wanted to do with Onana.”

Ferdinand said United did “stellarly well” this summer to offload the majority of players who are not part of Amorim’s plans. “In the past year, six players said they wanted to leave the football club – Onana is one of them – I would argue that at least three or four of them would have stayed,” the former defender explained.
“It wouldn’t have helped the players or clubs. It was just as important as what went in and leveled up, but it was important to bring out players who were deemed unsuitable for the club for some reason.
“They did great. Yes, they were loans only and most of them, but completing those players’ decks was powerful enough to bring in some good players.”
