Liverpool boss Arne Slot admitted that Mark Guech’s failed deadline move was “unfortunate”, but suggested that the club might try to sign players again in the future.
Crystal Palace skipper Guehi was widely reported to be providing medical care ahead of the £35 million move to Liverpool, just to opt out of the sale amid claims that Eagles manager Oliver Grassner would maintain England internationally.
Guehi is the final year of his palace contract, and President Steve Parish admitted in August that the club did not want to lose his 25-year-old for free next summer.
However, Glasner has been published with his claim to keep Guehi, emphasizing that in the final days of the transfer window, “no time” bringing a viable alternative to the defenders, who were the centre of the side that won the previous FA Cup.
In Guehi’s failed move, Slot said:
“Of course we would have wanted to sign him. If we felt we could strengthen our team, we wouldn’t hesitate to do so.

“It’s not like all of a sudden there’s no choice in that position. It’s sympathy not only for us, but for our players as well.
“But he was in a good place and played in the palace, where he won the Charity Shield and the FA Cup along with a very good manager.
“Let’s see what the future brings to him and us.”
Liverpool spent around £450 million this summer, including add-ons, but their title will remain fit by 34-year-old Virgil van Dyke, and it could potentially be that Ibrahima Conate rediscovers his best form.
The latter has only been in his Liverpool trade for a year, linked with his move to Real Madrid.
Liverpool signed with teen Italian centre-back Giovan Nileoni this summer for £26 million from Palma, but Joe Gomez continues to be a capable researcher for the aforementioned duo.
