Ruben Neves is furious after Portuguese magazine TV Guia questioned her close relationship with Diogo Jota’s widow Rute Cardoso.
Reuben Neves fought back against Portuguese magazine TV Guia, claiming he became close with Diogo Jota’s wife, Root Cardoso, following the tragic pass of the Liverpool and the Portuguese star.
Neves, who recently accompanied Cardoso at Molyneux in Molyneux, shared his dislike for the images released on the magazine cover as the Wolves paid tribute to former player Jota before the opening day Premier League fixture against Manchester City.
TV Guia captioned the photo, “Ruben Neves and Rute United Death. How Diogo Jota’s widow leaned against her best friend.”
Neves, who has supported both Cardoso and the Jota family along with his wife Deborah Lurenko in the aftermath of the tragedy, has released a strong response to an Instagram article he wrote.
“The person who puts this photo on the cover of a magazine doesn’t deserve happiness, just as their choices weren’t happy.

“We tried our best to help Root and her family in the best possible way. This selection of photos is as unhappy as the person who chose it and the person who posted it. I respect that everyone has their own job.
“Once again, I’m proud of the woman I have, the family I have. We are proud to be here for the power she has shown, whatever she needs. She knows how. Thank you.”
Neves was in the United States at the Club World Cup with Al Hilal at the time of Jota’s death. Shortly after his 2-1 defeat to Fulminence in Orlando, he flew to Porto with his teammate João Cancero for Jota’s funeral and carried his best friend’s co.
He has since paid a touching respect for his best friend by getting a pair of tattoos on his legs, featuring Jota’s 21 Portuguese jersey.
At a ceremony earlier this month held by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Neves paid tribute to both Jota and former Porto captain Jorge Costa.
“Me and the entire national team team will do everything we can to keep Diogo with us on our team,” Neves said. “Thank you, Jorge, Diogo. Forever in our hearts.”
