Marinakis took over the majority shareholders of Forest in May 2017, and the club was struggling with the championship at the time.
Fast forward eight seasons, and Forest is ready for a trip to Europe once again, signing an entire host of exciting players in the form of James McAtee, Dan Nudoi and Omali Hutchinson.
Both of these are factors that have excited Post-Coglu about his new job, but he admits he still doesn’t know Marinakis well.
“I’ve probably seen him three or four times in the last four or five years and haven’t spent much time at his company,” he said.
“It was probably the longest time I had when he gave me an award in the offseason, so that was really it.
“Obviously, I’ve heard of him and I know people who know him, but what I had in mind is the fact that he’s ready to support himself. He’s also an outsider.
“He didn’t buy an established club. He’s already competing for honor. He bought a club with such a great history, but when he took over it, you had to give credit to where he took the club.
“It’s exciting for me because I know he won’t take a break from it. He wants more and I don’t care about being in that space.”
Marinakis was the first Greek-born manager to win a major European trophy before awarding a unique award to Post-Coglow.
As a Greek speaker, Postecoglou has an advantage over Forest’s predecessor.
He hopes the pair have more in common than their legacy.
“I’m not saying that (it’s helpful to be both Greeks). I was Australian until a year ago, and now I’m suddenly Greek.
“I don’t think so. I think it helps to be able to speak language and have conversations, but like I said, I haven’t spent a lot of time at his company.
“I love his passion for the game, I love his passion for the football club, which is important to me.
“That’s the important thing I want to tap, I don’t expect to have dinner with him, but I usually do well with those people.
