Arsenal star Martin Odegard has faced a lot of criticism about his role as club captain, and the legendary Tony Adams has argued that his teammate Declan Rice should be given an armband instead
Arsenal captain Martin Odegard has insisted that he “doesn’t mind” comments from club legend Tony Adams, claiming that his armband should be stripped and replaced by Declan Rice.
Odegaard was appointed Gunners Skipper in the summer of 2022, but faces criticism of his suitability for his role as a push for more silverware. Adams is one of the most famous captains in the club’s history, as he led the club to four league titles and five domestic cups.
The club has finished as runner-up at the Premier League table over the past three seasons, and the iconic former defender Adams insisted earlier this summer that Rice should instead be named captain to “take the club to the next level.”
“He’s been making really big calls this year and for me, he’s not doing that,” he said. I think Declan is my kind of captain. Maybe I’ll release Odegard for a little more freedom.
“As a manager, you have to put someone who reflects you over and over again.

But Odegard was not moved when the quote was given an international break on him so that he didn’t pay attention to criticism and that it would not affect him.
“To be honest, I don’t really care,” he told a press conference ahead of the Norwegian conflict with Moldova. “Everyone can have their own opinions and say what they want. I’m fine with that. I don’t care what anyone says.”
The playmaker added: “There are a lot of negative and positive things to say, but I can’t influence it. That’s what I’ve been thinking throughout my career.”
Odegaard has played 201 total times for the Gunners, scoring an impressive 41 goals, and is being held in honour of many of his teammates.
When Adams’ claims about Odegard were mentioned to the Spaniards, he said:
“It’s how they feel about who has to be captains to defend, improve, and win the games we want to win. There’s no doubt about that. We have a (vote) every year, especially since we change (people) a lot and we change leadership groups.
“A lot of people talk and scream, then when you close the door, they do something very different. Martin doesn’t have to open his mouth, everyone will go, “He is my captain, I want him to represent me, I trust him 100%, he is the guy who wants to be next to me.” That’s all in my opinion. ”
