Jadon Sancho is being criticized for his lack of talent in a brutal assessment from Jamie Carragher. The Manchester United winger moved to Aston Villa on loan following a temporary stint at Chelsea last season. The 25-year-old has not been featured on United since his appearance in last season’s Community Shield penalty shootout out loss to Manchester City, which was only seven minutes long.
When it appeared in the Overlap, YouTuber Adam McKola branded Sancho as the club’s “worst ever” signature, costing £73 million in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund. Karager questioned Sancho’s football abilities, suggesting that he lacked his outstanding appeal.
“Sancho has gained a reputation in Borussia Dortmund, so it’s interesting in Sancho,” Karager said. “Me and Gary (Neville) were on Sky Sports a few years ago, and we didn’t see a lot of him, but he was really doing well in Dortmund in the Champions League.
“We were asked to come up with an English team, but we didn’t let him in and got some sticks on social media.
“I was critical of Marcus Rashford, but I think he plays a lot, but I can imagine his pace and shooting. I don’t know what Sancho’s thing is. All the players have something, but I can’t imagine what he’s doing. I’ve never seen it.
Sancho was tied to the move to Besikutas, Rome and Juventus, among other things, before joining the villa at the transfer deadline.
Villa paid 80% of Sancho’s wages, and Winger said he was “inspired” when he discussed the move with Unai Emery.
United legend Paul Shoals believes Emery can help Sancho rediscover his best form after Rashford’s encouragement stint in Birmingham last season, but he’s not confident.
“Unai Emery might be good for Sancho, but I think it’s a strange signature,” Shoals said. “Villa Park is a massive pitch and he has a lack of pace and a lack of feet. He has some glow, but what is his true strength? I really don’t know.”
Sancho was able to make his villa debut on Saturday when he traveled to Everton in the Premier League.
Villa needs some performances from the new signature as they began the season with two losses and draws.
