Nuno Espirito Santo was fired by Nottingham Forest and went to just three games in the Premier League season ahead of his continental return in the UEFA Europa League

Nottingham Forest has made manager Nuno Espirito Santo into just three matches in the new Premier League season.
The Portuguese has been responsible for 71 forest matches since taking over in December 2023, leading them to seventh place last season, leading them to the UEFA Europa League location.
He also oversaw Forest’s run to the FA Cup semi-finals last season, giving Forest fans a memorable trip to Wembley.

Forest began the season with a 3-1 win over Brentford, a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace before losing 3-0 to West Ham on the City Ground in the final match.

After the 51-year-old released details of his sour relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis, there was uncertainty about whether he was in a forest dugout after an international break.

“The Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that Nunoespirito Santo has been released from his duties as head coach today, following the recent circumstances.

“The club would like to thank Nuno for his contributions in his role in his highly successful days on the ground, especially in the 2024/25 season.

“As someone who played a pivotal role in last season’s success, he always holds a special place in our journey.”

Nuno sat 17th at the table and came to the ground in the city in the forest, where he lost five of his final six games.

He took over from Steve Cooper just before Christmas, and had a reputation for being an overperformance, regularly piloting the wolves to a 7th place finish.

Soon, the former Tottenham manager made his mark and won Newcastle 3-1 at St. James Park on Boxing Day 2023, with Chris Wood earning a hat-trick against his old club.

After winning Manchester United at home, Vital won the game before fighting Sheffield United and Burnley were able to ensure the club remained Premier League status later in the season.

Last season, Forest started solidly, enjoying a near-perfect December before losing to Manchester City alone, and then a surprising eight-game unbeaten streak with seven wins and a lonely draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

That form left the club on the brink of a surprise UEFA Champions League place, and they continued to beat City and United with a memorable home victory and a reliable draw against Arsenal.

There was a slight stud to the end of the season, paired with improved forms of Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa, and was qualified for the Europa League due to UEFA’s ruling that the best league finish of 20 was seventh and Crystal Palace broke the multi-ownership rule.

However, this season, the forest hierarchy has changed, with former Arsenal technical director Edu being appointed as Forest’s global football director.

That role gave him solid control over all transfer transactions and his relationship with Marinakis began to diminish.

Just 17 days ago, Nuno said: “I’ve always had a very good relationship with the owner. Last season, we were very close and talked every day. This season isn’t going that well.

“My concern is the team and season ahead of us. Our relationship has changed and we are not that close.”

“Our relationship has changed and we’re not that close. Everyone in the club should be together, but this is not the reality.”

The appointment of Nuno’s successor could be named imminent.

A trip to Arsenal, a trip to Arsenal, a resurgence at TNT Sports and Discovery+ before a League Cup trip to Swansea.

They then play Burnley and Sunderland, both sides of the European action and the collision with Real Betis in the away collision.
