Man UTD Chiefs spoke about the massive next step that they must take to bring Ruben Amorim back to true

Manchester United spends over £200 million in the summer to give Reuben Amorim more what he wants at Old Trafford, but Phil Jones claims the Red Devils boss needs more than just transfer market support

Former Manchester United defender Phil Jones believes it is important for Old Trafford Club to provide more than just support in the transfer market.

After being signed by Ir Alex Ferguson on a £16.5 million contract from Blackburn in 2011, Jones, who spent 12 years with the Reds, became the winner of the Premier League title under the club’s great manager before experiencing United’s epic appearance when Scott retired in 2013. This summer, Benjamin Sesco, Brian Mbeumo, Mateus Cunha, Senne Lammens and Senne Lammens.

But Jones feels that Amorim must be given time to make his way of working — and feels that if United overhauls their much untwisted academy playing style it would make Portugal’s work easier, just as United are coached to play the three back tactical systems their managers are committed to.

Jones spent two years coaching children at Carrington after hanging his boots in 2024. He spoke only about free bets, the best betting site home, and said, “One of the questions I asked was why the youth and academy team didn’t play the same system that Amorim brought at the advanced level.

“These kids need to learn how to play in different positions and different systems to build their careers in the game. Hopefully they can build their careers in Old Trafford, but if they are successful in the game, they need to be adaptable.

“I think it’s good that young people play in different positions and systems, but they need to work directly through the academy, just like they prepare their first team through the academy.

“If a player calls a senior team that has been happening for years and years at United, they need to be ready to play the system that managers employ, and they need to understand that.”

Jones added: “I think it’s important for United not to fire a gun early with another manager. Last season was a bad thing, but it’s backed up by some of the performances we’ve seen in the Premier League this season.

“It’s something that builds five points in three games. If Amorim can score four points from City and Chelsea in the game (Manchester) after an international break, then suddenly he looks on the right track.

“You can’t light up that performance in the Grimsby game on the Carabao Cup. United was awful all over the pitch.

“What do you do? Can you trade managers and then spend £200 million on someone else? United need to get Amorim back.

“Every time our manager is fired after Sir Alex leaves, the club briefly explains that we are transitioning. However, United have been making constant transitions for probably 10 years now. They wanted Amorim.

Amorim, 40, is an emotional manager wearing a mind on her sleeve. Jones is surprised at how honest he was when assessing the quality of the squad he has at his disposal, but urges him not to lose that edge.

He said: “I remember playing Reuben in the Champions League when he played for Braga, and what he likes is that he is real.

“I don’t think you should try to be cool and calm when you aren’t. Just like you shouldn’t be angry if you aren’t.

“I don’t think Amorim should change. Obviously, he might want to avoid certain things, but in the end he has to be his own.”
