England has so far been very persuasive during his time in charge of Thomas Touchel’s three lions, and he has done some big work to shape the sides before the World Cup.
With five games leading up to the reign of Thomas Touchel, we are not yet wise. And, worryingly, Tuchel has seven more games (5 more fixtures in 2025 and two more in March) to stamp his identity and style with this England team ahead of the World Cup.
England were keen on an ugly, nasty and unconvincing victory over Andorra to maintain a 100% record in their qualifying campaign. Harry Kane must have thought he would get a poor goal to expand his country’s goalscoring record. However, despite playing 90 minutes he never got a good look.
England is the top of Group K and faces Serbia’s most difficult Test on Tuesday night, but is undefeated in 35 World Cup qualifiers (27 wins and eight draws). This is the best of any team in Europe.
However, England has always been good at qualifying. Their problem is when they reach the tournament. Tuchel should become an elite manager to overcome that final hurdle that just escaped his predecessor, Gareth Southgate.

The concern is whether England is making progress under Chuchel. They began his rule with considerable victory over Albania and Latvia. However, they manage only three goals in two games against Andorra, ranked 174th in the world. In June, the UK was slapped by Senegal, the only aspect of the half they played. You will probably only learn about this team, its progress, and Chuchel in Belgrade.
Interestingly, however, Tuchel currently uses 29 players in five games. Elliot Anderson was impressed with his debut at Villa Park and auditioned decently to fill in the role of the NO6 that effectively frees Declan Rice and moves forward. But there are not enough players who nail their place. And that’s the biggest concern. None of the defenders are 100% safe. Rice definitely starts, Jordan Pickford, Bukayosaka, Jude Bellingham and of course Kane.

With 73 goals in 108 caps, Kane is England’s most reliable and consistent player. But he is 32 years old and worries must always be with such a key player. What happens if I get injured before the tournament? That’s not pessimistic. It’s about being realistic, and England has very few backup options and no one competes with him.
Tuchel revealed that he was always going to attract Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, as the game is at Villa Park and will be a great moment for the striker and his family. However, Mark Guech complained of gro caliber issues half the time, and the English boss was worried about running out of too many alternatives, so Tushel left Kane on the pitch.
Kane definitely starts in Serbia. He has to start. Still, Tuchel admitted that even Captain Marvel is still looking for rhythm despite scoring six goals for Bayern Munich this season.
Tuchel said: “Harry stays and it turns out that it’s never a problem. He’s ready for Tuesday, I think it’s always the beginning of the season. For all players, you’re trying to find your rhythm and you’re getting there. He’s already scored for Bayern.
“We have a lot of options. Ollie, Harry and Marcus Rashford can play there, Jarrod Bowen can play there, Anthony Gordon plays there, I think so.
“Phillforden can play for a nine. Morgan Rodgers can play for a nine. Who will catch the form and fire and start scoring in the Premier League. But yes, there’s plenty of firepower out there.”
Interestingly, no mention of Liam Dellup or Ivan Tony was made. However, Tuchel also says that despite the dull exhibit against Andorra, players will be impressed with his training and will win in Serbia.
Tuchel added: “The main thing is that I trust them. I felt very strong this week and had a great camp so I felt the energy was right and my attitude felt right. That’s why I fully trust that there is a good game in Serbia.
