Serbia is scheduled to face England in Belgrade’s World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, with hosts Football Association warning supporters before the match

The Serbian football chief issued a harsh warning to his fans ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against England. The Serbian Football Association has sent messages to supporters, urging them not to display signs, symbols, flags or perform political chants when they face Britain.

Serbia has already been punished by UEFA. This is because 50,000 Rajko Mitić Stadiums will be partially closed. 15% of seats remain empty on Tuesday night, when fans committed racist charges during a clash with Andorra last June. The Serbian FA has been fined more than £600,000 for crowd crimes in the past five years by the UEFA, and the statement warns that if there is an incident against England, it will face greater punishment.

The statement said: “UEFA has long established a list of prohibited items (signs, symbols, flags, sounds, chants, political slogans, etc.) that are subject to strict sanctions and penalties. “In the past five years alone, the Serbian Football Association has been fined over 700,000 euros by UEFA for various banned actions,” he said.

“The national team is our pride. We have nothing else. It deserves the support we deserve for such a critical game. We want to emphasize the value and need for support that contributes to creating a positive atmosphere at the stadium.

“We unite in our love of football, support our national team in the right way, respect our opponents and the national anthem. Let’s celebrate the sport and respect between our rivals and our nation’s competition.”

On the pitch, Serbia and the UK are undefeated in Qualifying Group K. Neither team has conceded goals, with England winning four of four, while Serbia winning two wins and a goalless draw against Albania.

England played the third of four home games on Saturday, beating Andorra 2-0. Christian Garcia’s own goal was to place the three lions forward during the break, with Declan Rice in an advantage in the second half.

“I liked the performance. It was a good performance and a solid performance against the low block,” said England boss Thomas Tuschel. “The second goal was too late to play with the 100% freedom needed to score more points. We created many opportunities, but we didn’t convert them.

“We had to wait a long time for our second goal, so we got good energy from the alternative energy, had a second goal, felt free, and we also signaled our opponent that the game was over.

“In general, I was completely satisfied with my efforts and attitude, and I was a much better performance than in June (when England beat Andorra). I would deserve to win 4-0 or 5-0.”
