Former Sunderland and Crystal Palace Strike Reconer Wickham are on the scoresheet in sensational style against Manchester United’s youth team on Wednesday, as he looks to the new club
Former Premier League star Conor Wickham bagged a sensational strike from the middle line while searching for a new club. The forwards of the former Sunderland and Crystal Palace were hit just seven minutes later in a collision between the PFA XI and Manchester United’s under-21 flank.
Wickham, 32, was a star who traveled to Carrington when a team of 17 players kept fitness in and bid to find their next team. Other Premier League figures, including Cyrus Christie, Roland Aaron and Kazenga Lua Lua, are involved in training, but in the match against the Brighton youth team, former Arenaal forward Tirees John Jour and former Chelsea young Tarik Uwakwe performed.
And for everyone who sees it is Wickham’s goal to live long in memory. The veteran forward claimed the loose ball after United youth’s lost possessions and touched it on the opposition area before letting go on a considered strike.
Goalkeeper William Murdoch remained scrambled back to his gorelin, but was unable to prevent him from hitting the net. The effort was an outstanding moment in the match, but Red Devils teenager Cia Lacy offered her impressive, curly strike to ensure the game was over.
Wickham would certainly have expanded his reach with his latest strike, but he has seen the football league moves. Ex-Ipswich Town and Cardiff Ace are looking to go back to the action they took without a club last season.

Wickham last played for Charlton after being impressed during his two-week training period with the club in March 2024.
Wickham led a renowned career and played for 10 clubs after his debut as Ipswich, who was 16 years old. In 2011, Sunderland paid £8 million for his services at a record fee for the Tractor Boys.
The striker saw a string of loan spells on Sheffield on Wednesday, so he struggled to make lasting impacts at the Stadium of Light, but won Premier League honors in April 2014 to help the team avoid relegation. Wickham eventually moved to Crystal Palace, but saw his career halt after a serious knee injury kept him out of first team action for almost two years.
The striker suffered similar misfortune after moving to Preston following his time at Selhurst Park. Wickham suffered a hamstring injury five minutes after his second appearance at the club and was released several months after his contract.
A few days after his free agent, Wickham moved to MK Don on another short-term contract, but continued until the end of the season before joining the Forest Green Rover. Despite scoring nine goals in 20 games, Wickham set out at the end of another short-term contract, before a brief spell with Cardiff and Charlton.
