Liverpool is fresh from behind the stunning summer transfer window, but with many faces prepared to leave Liverpool, their thoughts may already have changed for next summer
2025 was totally against it if Arne Slot’s first summer window in Liverpool was almost forgotten. The Reds spent more than £400 million on new talent, with Alexander Isaac, Florian Wiltz and Hugo Ekitique arriving in the arrival of their headlines.
The Liverpool chief also generated enormous funds to help fund its record spending. Merseysiders earned sales of around £250 million over the window as Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and More all left the club.
And now, despite their team looking great, another busy summer could be waiting for Liverpool, seeing their contract expire within 12 months.
Among them, the chief is longtime left-back Andy Robertson. The Scottish defender is only on the contract until 2026, and if he doesn’t sign a new deal before that, he’s free to leave.
Robertson has already linked to his journey away from Anfield this summer, with Atletico Madrid linked after Milos Querquez’s arrival. However, Slots apparently placed his faith on Robertson after setting him up as the club’s vice captain and Kostas Tsimikas lends him to Roma to allow him to leave.

“He played here for many years and won the league twice,” he said of the decision. “Last season, it was Virgil, Trent, Robbo and Moe (Sarah).
“There are many logical reasons for the decision as Trent has left. (Robertson) is a very good player, he plays a lot of games and knows what he needs, but he also knows the culture of the club and dressing room.
“Aside from all the quality he shows on the pitch, he plays a big role in the culture we are here at this club. This is the biggest gift we can get from Jürgen (Klopp) many times last season. This is definitely something we need to maintain if we leave this club to maintain this same culture.”

Robertson’s defensive colleague, Ibrahima Conate, is also closing his contract next summer. The French are already linked to a free switch to Real Madrid.
Robertson and Conate are both experienced campaigners, but their priorities are to tie down the teenage sense Ling Moha. The 16-year-old enjoyed a very impressive preseason before getting even better with his final GASP winner at Newcastle in August.
He is currently in a scholarship deal, but is currently planning to sign the terms of the profession, who turned 17 just before the summer windows close.
One of those they may be willing to let go is academy alumnus Rhys Williams. The centre-back broke into the team during the 2020/21 season, but has not appeared in the first team ever since. He has had five loan spells ever since.
The final uncontracted star is actually one of Liverpool’s summer signatures. Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman arrived at Anfield on a free transfer from Preston and wrote a one-year contract. Liverpool has the option to extend that deal further to the year.
