According to French sources, Arsenal was treated to the Hammer Bridge after William Saliba was ruled out for three to four weeks. The central defender was kicked out of the field just minutes after the Gunners’ defeat to Liverpool.

Saliba limped with an ankle injury before breaking out of international obligations with Lesbuls. The 24-year-old could miss a month’s action as Arsenal tried to return to the way he won, and Champions League competition begins following an international break.

Earlier this week, a statement from the French national team said: “William Saliba, who started off for Arsenal against Liverpool on Sunday, was kicked out for five minutes. He cannot respect the call for the first training camp of the season. He is suffering in his left ankle. He will raise Benjamin Pavad as a reinforcement.”

Saliba will miss out on a match against the Carabao Cup match against Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Athletic Bilbao and Portvale. If the Arsenal star suffers from a worse end of the prognosis, he will also be absent from Newcastle, the Olympiacos and West Ham United.

Summer Signature 21-year-old Christian Mosquera came from the bench to replace Saliba against Liverpool. The Spaniard was signed by Valencia for just £13 million.

Mikel Arteta added further defensive reinforcements to the transfer deadline in the form of Bayer Lebakusen’s Piero Hincapie. The 23-year-old will arrive with a loan so that the North London team can travel permanently next summer.

After Saliba was injured in the warm-up for a match at Anfield, Arteta was relieved to have Mosquera at his disposal. Saliba initially believed he was OK in the match.

“He came in and believed he could continue playing, but unfortunately he couldn’t deal with the first two actions and he had to kick him out,” Arteta explained.

“But I’m grateful that we have the first Mosquera we’ve put in in the Premier League. His debut (sic: Mosquera also came out of the bench vs. Leeds). I think he’s really good because we didn’t expect that at Anfield.”
