Crystal Palace skipper Mark Guech reportedly has been interested in Liverpool and four other clubs during the January transfer period. The 25-year-old future was cast in uncertainty after a last-minute change in mind from Palace President Steve Parish avoided moving on the £35 million deadline to Anfield.
The decision infuriated Guehi, and manager Oliver Glasner threatened to resign if the club lets the star player go without securing a replacement. With Guehi’s contract, which is due to expire at the end of June, there are no plans to sign a new one, so the January window will be crucial to his future. At that point he is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club.
Liverpool was able to try to negotiate a bargain deal with the palace. However, the Reds will face tough competition for the English International signing.
According to the Daily Star, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are all eager to Gech. Citi, who allowed Manuel Akanji to join Inter Milan on loan on the deadline, could also offload Nathan Ake before moving on to Gahe.
The aftermath of Guech’s failed move to Liverpool has yet to be seen. Rumors earlier this week suggest that he might abandon his captain at the palace.
England manager Thomas Tuschel showed unwavering support for him after holding a Crunch talk before his match with Andorra on Saturday.
Tuchel said:
“He continues to do this at camp. He treats it with respect, grace and great attitude.”
Guehi is part of the winning starting lineup against Andorra and aims to maintain his spot with Tuchel’s team for next year’s World Cup.
Despite not seeking a transfer, Guehi was interested in moving to Liverpool, which remains his favorite to secure his signature in 2026.
