However, it’s not only Arrival that marked this as a big summer for United, but dozens of players are on loan forever or on loan Old Trafford. Antony and Alejandro Garnacho are on sale, while Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Rasmos Hozilund are on loan.

Meanwhile, Maguire has only managed two alternative Premier League appearances so far, having found himself excluded from Amorim’s starting XI this season. Amorim supports the defensive trio of Renee Yoro, Luke Shaw and Mattigis de Liguto, but Lisandro Martinez continues to recover from a severe knee injury he suffered in February.
Such a massive transformation requires time to bear fruit at Old Trafford. Time United can’t afford to try and regain its former glory. Nevertheless, neither Maguire nor his supporters can argue that the club did not act on that bid to return to the summit.
