Brazil overcame Chile 3-0 in Malacana World Cup qualifiers on Friday, but it was fortunate that Casemiro was not sent for stamps at the end of the first half
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro dodged the red card after standing on the legs of his opponents attacked while playing for Brazil. Selecao comfortably won Chile 3-0 in the World Cup qualifiers at Malacana on Friday, playing in a match where a nasty foul by Casemiro was not punished.
The goals of Chelseawinger Estevao, West Ham playmaker Luca Spaqueta and Newcastle midfielder Brunogimalaes earned Carlo Ancelotti’s second victory in his third game as Brazilian boss. It was Ancelotti’s chance to experiment. Brazil already guaranteed their place at next year’s World Cup, and Chile was sitting at the bottom of the group where opportunities were already gone.
Estebao put the home side forward by heading towards a deflected shot from close range before he was lucky enough to not be sent on a halftime stroke. The veteran midfielder was clearly standing on the legs of Chilean midfielder Felipe Loyola.
The United star appeared to be looking down as he planted his feet before looking up at the referee and apologising to the other. He was shown a yellow card and escaped further punishment as the VAR was not working.

Ancelotti’s side made the game safe midway through the second half when Paketa came out on Luis Henrique’s cross at the back post. Guimares then grabbed his own goal by converting from the goal line.
Brazil had already assured them their place at the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, the US and Mexico. Ancelotti took over as manager this summer, following his firing of Drival Junior at the end of March.
The former Real Madrid manager is in his first role as an international boss, and is subjected to great pressure on the outcome after turbulence. His arrival is good news for Casemiro, who played under Italian coaches during his successful period at Real.
Casemiro has 77 caps for the national team and is a Manchester United starter at age 33. He started all three United Premier League games this season at midfield.
Asked what his ambitions for the season were, Casemiro told the United Club’s website:
“So I want to arrive in a good way at the World Cup. I want to enjoy the year, I want to arrive in the top form, and that’s the title I lack. So I want to win the title here.
