Former Aracenal Chief acquires an influential role as the truth behind Daniel Levy’s Tottenham exit ermerges

Tottenham’s longtime Hotspur Chair Daniel Levy has confirmed his departure from the club he has been in charge of with the Premier League club for nearly a century.

Daniel Levy’s Tottenham exit is part of a series of broad changes from club ownership and is just beginning to begin. Levy was the longest-serving chair in the Premier League, but confirmed on Thursday that he has been running away for nearly 25 years.

Levy, 63, joined the Spurs board of directors in 2000 and took over as chairman of Alan Sugar. He oversaw the employment and firing of multiple managers at that time, and most recently rejected Ange Postecoglou and appointed Thomas Frank.

According to Football.London, the move is part of a broader plan from the owners of the Lewis family, leading the club in a new direction. Other recent changes have been made behind the scenes shortly after former Arsenal executive Vinai Venkatesham was appointed as Spurs’ new CEO.

The same publication reports that long-term owner Joe Louis has returned from his role, and that his children and grandchildren are more active in supporting the club. This led to the appointment of Venkatesham, who took on many Arsenal roles, including CEO, before leaving in 2024.

The Spurs have a new non-executive chairman in the form of Peter Charrington. But football. London reports that rather than emulating Levy’s more practical approach, it oversees the big picture.

“I am extremely proud of the work I have done with management and all of my employees,” Levy said at a confirmation of his exit. “We built this club into a global heavyweight competition at the highest levels. And more than that, we built a community. I was fortunate to work with the greatest people of the sport, from the team at the Lily White House to all the players and managers over the years.

“I would like to thank all the fans who have supported me over the years. It has not always been an easy journey, but great progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”

When Levy took over in the 2000-01 season, the Spurs were in decline at the middle of the table under George Graham’s control. The new chair replaced Graham with club legend Glenn Hoddle in April 2001 and reached the League Cup final the following season, but in 2008 the London Club won the first Levy era trophy.

However, the wait for Trophy Number 2 lasted even longer. After overseeing the move to the new stadium, Levi suffered the Spurs’ final Champions League defeat against Liverpool in 2019, and two years later, a narrow League Cup final defeat against Manchester City.

The Spurs finally won the trophy in 2025, beating Manchester United in the Europa League final. That alone wasn’t enough for manager Post Koglu to take the helm, but Levi leaves when the team returns to the Champions League with a new boss installed.
