Emi Martinez is working on speculation surrounding his future after linking with the switch to Manchester United, suggesting he agreed to personal terms with the Red Devils before the transfer deadline.
United chased Aston Villa’s shotstopper through the window and declined a loan offer.
Near the window, Fabrizio Romano claimed that United approached the villa for Martinez after he had already secured personal terms with the keeper.
This became clear in doubt about the future of Andre Onana and Altai Bayindeal at Old Trafford. Martinez, who had accepted to leave the villa early in the summer but now remains on Unai Emery’s side, now has an international obligation with Argentina to South American World Cup qualifiers.
Following Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Venezuela in Buenos Aires – winter approaching – a journalist secured a short chat with the goalkeeper.
Talking to Fox Sports Argentina, the opening issue was about bitter climates as Martinez had minimal involvement during the fixtures.
“Not as bad as Birmingham!” The goalkeeper laughed before being asked if he was planning to stay in Birmingham when he quized about the cold.
“Yes, yes – perfect,” replied the Argentinian.
The reporter then asked if he could visit him in the second city.
The World Cup winner will be signing a contract at Villa Park until 2029 after completing his new term last year.
