Manchester United legend Paul Scholes says he “likes” the club’s current boss, Reuben Amorim, but he admits he has clear problems with the Portuguese.

United boss Amorim gave an emotional and dull interview last week in the wake of the shocking EFL Cup exit to League 2 Grimsby. Amorim said his players “talked out loud about what they wanted” in their tragic display.
“I really like Amorim,” Shoals said. “He’s very honest and maybe he’s too honest. He’s saying what every manager is probably thinking at some point, but I don’t think you’ll say it out loud.
“The Premier League has a lot of experienced managers who are thinking about that.
“The worst comment for me was after a Grimsby match, where he said the players spoke loudly, and I thought it was a bit crazy for him.

When asked what Amorim means, Shoals said, “Players don’t want to play for him.”
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carrager said: “The problem with Amorim is great at press conferences, but he’s not winning, so people are thinking, ‘Oh, shut up, stop talking.’ But if he had won, we would all have thought he was a great character and personality.
“If he wasn’t that charismatic and not that good looking guy at the press conference, he might have lost his job sooner. They’re terrifying when you see the outcome.”
The Shoals also claimed United’s failure to deal with their midfield was ruined by the transfer window, but he argued that it was a priority to strengthen.
“We’re talking about recruitment and United aren’t dealing with areas that need to be addressed,” Shoals said. “They had to deal with the midfield, their feet weren’t there.
“Amorim has four or five midfielders. He wants to play two of them, but he can’t get it right and can’t get the combination right.”
