Liverpool has confirmed a 22-man team in the upcoming Champions League phase. The six-time European winner is qualifying as a Premier League champion and is looking to improve his final 16 finish from last season. The Reds will begin the league stage on Wednesday, September 17th, in a home match against Atletico Madrid, with 36 eligible teams facing eight different opponents.
Arne Slot’s team welcomes Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven and Qarabag to Anfield. Meanwhile, they will face Galata Salei, Eintracht Frankfurt, Inter Milan and Marseille, and will win the opening stage of the tournament in late January. Each club can register up to 25 players on the primary “List A” team. This should include at least eight limited spots for UEFA to categorize as locally trained or homemade players.
The selected teams for Liverpool include new signatures, Florian Wurtz, Alexander Isaac, Hugo Ekichique, Jeremy Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman.
However, Chiesa missed the opening stage selection for the competition, as only 17 non-home players are allowed on the list. Rionugmoha is believed to be not at home and only attended Liverpool last year.
Trey Nyoni and Jayden Danns are also absent from the list despite appearing in the Champions League last season, but are eligible to choose “List B” due to their age and club-trained qualifications.
Clubs are permitted to register unlimited players on “List B” throughout the campaign, allowing modifications to be made prior to each match.
UEFA regulations clarify the standards. “Players may be placed on List B if they are born after January 1, 2004 or after their 15th birthday.
“A 16-year-old player may be registered on List B if he has been registered with participating clubs for the past two years without interruption.”
As Liverpool advances into the knockout phase, if they face a ninth to 24th playoff while the top eight advance directly into the 16 rounds, they will be allowed to change “List A” by adding three new eligible players while maintaining the 25-man limit.
