Yoane Wissa took Brentford to Greenlight all summer, trying to move to Newcastle.
Yon Wissa’s decision to make a nuclear choice to force a move to Newcastle was hardly rewarded. Wissa joined Magpies on a £55 million move from Brentford at the transfer deadline, but his gambling was only available at the last moment.
The 28-year-old striker wanted to leave West London all summer, but was forced to wait until the deadline. After Brentford rejected two offers, Whissa posted a lengthy statement accusing the club of breaking their promises and taking him hostage.
He moved Monday to replace Alexander Isaac of Newcastle. However, according to Sky Sports, Newcastle only completed the paperwork with 30 seconds left.
Wissa reportedly did not sign a piece of paper, and forced one of his representatives to retrieve his signature before time ran out. The deal was ratified only by the Premier League at 8:59pm, within two hours of Newcastle obtaining a two-hour extension beyond 7pm using the deadline sheet.

“I’m really happy to be here and signed one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League,” Wissa, who ran northeast on Sunday night, told the club’s website. “I’m very excited to wear a black and white shirt. I have dreams, I have faith, and now I’ll do my best to make it all come true.
Wissa wears the shirt 9, which is vacant by Isaac, and competes for the side spot alongside his companion, new arrival, Nick Urtemaid. The giant German striker took part in a £609 million club record deal from Stuttgart and Eddie Howe.
He states: “Joane is a player we have admired for a while and we are delighted to have him on board, he brings the quality of a proven Premier League.
“Yoa’s style of play excites our supporters and complements our style of play. He has pace, power and excellent work rate. He quickly makes us stronger.”
Wissa scored 20 goals in 39 appearances for Brentford last season, starring alongside Brian Mbeumo. Mbeumo completed the £71 million move to Manchester United early in the window, but Wissa was waiting.
He has scored 45 goals in 137 Premier League appearances for Brentford, who joined from French side Lorient in 2021. Wissa has 33 limits in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and looks forward to representing his new club in the Champions League.
