Premier League clubs spent a lot of money in the summer and broke their league records twice, but some players and clubs remained unhappy when the windows closed
So the transfer window was closed – at least in the Premier League club. Teams from several countries can add more among the most notable ones Saudi Arabia and Turkey, but the top flight aspect of England is currently limited to free agents.
Some of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer were resolved at the very end. Most notably, Alexander Isaac completed a record-breaking move to Liverpool and Joane Wissa joined Isaac’s former club Newcastle.
Other players got the moves they wanted much faster. Matheus Cunha’s wolf exit is likely to happen all the time this summer, and he swapped Molineux for Old Trafford long before the start of the season.
Some players have found themselves forced into movements they are not happy about, despite being a window of “desire only” that looks like this when certain social media updates are believed. Naples lender Rasmus Hojlund was not given the opportunity to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place, but Harvey Elliott wanted to have a similar fight in Liverpool before his deadline day loan to Aston Villa.
However, for some players, the moves have not been realized at all. Here, Miller Football is looking at some players and clubs that probably didn’t get what they were after this summer.

Emi Martinez
Emi Martinez’s emotional end to the 2024-25 season certainly felt like a farewell. The goalkeeper appeared to say goodbye to Aston Villa fans after the final home game of the season, but he remains in the club’s book.
Manchester United appears to be the most likely destination, and it is still possible to move on the deadline. However, United chose Senne Lammen instead, but the answer was to decide on a younger model.
Martinez needs to decide whether to return to Saudi Arabia’s move, which appears to have never been enthusiastic. Oh, plus that is his birthday.
Raheem Sterling
This time last year, England International Sterling moved to Arsenal at the last minute. He returned to Chelsea for him as he didn’t pull up the trees on a year’s loan in North London.
Enzo Maresca was cruel when it came to abandoning players he didn’t think he had a future at the club. If conference league football doesn’t provide a few minutes to the exile, there’s a lot of movement sealed.
The last week of the windows had permanent exits by Kearney Chukwemeka, Christopher Nukank and Ben Chilwell Seal, but Nicholas Jackson and Aaron Anselmino rented out, while Sterling is stuck at Stamford Bridge.
Flam
Fulham was one of the clubs linked to Sterling in the first half of the window, and Winger appeared to prefer a Premier League stay. They didn’t sign him – in fact, they signed almost no one.
Marco Silva’s side felt like he was overweight when he flirted with Europe last season. If they do the same this season, it will be a group of more or less the same players.
Yes, Cottage broke his transfer record and signed Kevin from Shakhtar, but he was one of two new permanent signatures along with backup keeper Benjamin Recomte. As Leeds’ moves didn’t come true, they avoided losing Harry Wilson late, but this may be something they would look back on as an opportunity they missed.
Mark Guech
Unlike the other players who made the move, Crystal Palace Captain Gehhi continued his play while he waited for Liverpool to come for him. Red left things at the last minute. So, in any issue, we could see the transaction completely collapsed. That’s what happened.
Guehi is not as big a loser as the rest. This is because his move is likely to come next summer. He may find himself in a better position to negotiate. This means that there is often no transfer fee.
Still, that means there is no Champions League football for England International. That said, the way he did himself means that palace fans may not be totally upset to see him stay a little longer.
Mark Giu
Similar names, different situations. Guiu actually did his move, but he returned to where he had begun at the end of the window.
The loan move from Chelsea to Sunderland looked to suit the Spaniards. He scored his first Black Cats goal in his first start at the Carabao Cup and was featured in two of his first three league games under Regis Luburi.
Liam Dellup was later injured and Chelsea decided to bring him back to West London. He’s back to backup. And it would be surprising to see him regain the same kind of behavior on the bridge – especially by the end of October, Dellup had potentially returned.
Tyrell Malacia
Manchester United wiped out most of the “bomb squad” before the windows closed. Marcus Rashford went out first, one of the three finished the loan with Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Hozilund, and Alejandro Garnacho and Antony left forever.
It leaves Malacia. The Dutch defender was sent off on his final GASP loan in February 2025 and joined PSV Eindhoven, but the Eredivisi champions didn’t feel the need to make the deal permanent.
There is still time for the former Feyenoord man to move to one of the leagues that have not yet passed the deadline. If he fails, he gets stuck with United after checking the notes * 7 times under Reuben Amorim.
