Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim rejected criticism directed at substitute goalkeeper Altai Bayindeal after another volatile match against Fulham on Sunday
Reuben Amorim jumped to the defense of Altai Bayindir after Rio Ferdinand was one of them to criticize Manchester United’s goalkeeper.
Bayindir has started both United Premier League games this season, with Andre Onana on the bench at Craven Cottage on Sunday. A similar problem occurred in a 1-1 draw with Fulham as they struggled with the set pieces in a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal.
Turkish International looked uncomfortable when defending the corner, and Fulham appeared to be targeting the weaknesses he had shown in his acceptance to Riccardo Calafiori the previous week. And while United were not punished for the set pieces this time, Ferdinand and Gary Neville were among them to highlight Bay Indil’s struggle.
However, ahead of United’s match against the Carabao Cup and Grimsby on Wednesday, Amorim refused to focus on the Bay Indeal. “I know you have a lot of focus on your opponent’s corners, but if you remember this game, we had the chance and scored a goal from the pieces of the set,” he said.

“There was a penalty. There was at least one near the post. Tell us what in one game in the Premier League, you didn’t see any big opportunity from the corner. That happens in all games.”
His words come in yet another discussion of his goalkeeping position at United. Onana was her first choice of last season, but she sat on the bench on Sunday to watch Bay Indeal recovering from a summer injury.
United are in discussion with Royal Antwerp about the signature of goalkeeper Senne Lanmans, which suggests he is unhappy with his current crop, including 39-year-old Tom Heaton. Former United defender Ferdinand urged Amorim to do some specific training sessions to help Bay Indil adapt.
“We look unstable. The goalkeeper doesn’t meet me with great confidence,” he presents his YouTube channel in Rio Ferdinand. “He needs to get excited. I definitely know that. I’ll tell you what I’m going to do, I’ll put him on the pitch every day and crush the ball under the crossbar.
“He has to get used to it. He has to get in touch and get used to it to get along the path. Make sure he is aware of the judges by the way they come into contact with him.
“I don’t think he’s talking enough. He didn’t let people know what was going on and at that moment he made enough decisions.”
Neville also asked Bay Indeal, who told Sky Sports: “That’s not good for Bay Indeal. United need to sort this out. He’s 27 years old and not young for goalkeepers.
