The national league clash between Eastleigh and Scunthorpe had to be abandoned in suspension due to a medical emergency on the pitch. The match, which was evenly settled at the time, was confused after a clash between Archie Harris of Eastlee and Jean Bellehoan of Scunthorpe. The pair required immediate medical consultation in this area.
The referees returned players to the changing rooms from both sides before making the decision to abandon the game. Scunthorpe first took the lead in the 83rd minute, and Declan Howe made a rebound effort under Nick Townsend. But Eastlee was able to level the score in the first minute of stoppage time when Harvey Sanders returned home from Paul McCollum’s header over the goal.
Scunthorpe later confirmed that Belehouan had left the pitch in a wheelchair after seeing a doctor. He was responsive while talking to Iron Medical Staff and after receiving treatment he returned to the dressing room with his teammates.
While offering live updates for matches on social media, Eastlee posted that “play stopped after a serious clash.” They followed, “The paramedics are on the pitch, and the stadium falls for silence. Our idea is with Archie Harris and Jean Belejoan.”
In the third and final post, “Full-time – the game has been abandoned. Once again, everyone’s thoughts at the Eastlee Football Club are with Archie Harris and Djembele Joan.”
Scunthorpe wrote in several posts:
“The ambulances scream because the crowd is really quiet. Our thoughts are being thought of both Eastley players and Djembele Joan while they are undergoing treatment when flags are placed around the incident while treatment is being carried out.
“The referee instructs both players sets to go to the changing room with many distraught looks from both players’ sets. Our ideas are with both players while being treated.
“Belejoan steps in for a moment, but will soon return to the floor. At Silver Lake Stadium, there is a lot of concern for both players. There is a sour taste to end the game for both teams at Silver Lake Stadium.
They added after the match:
“Jean Belehouan is currently sitting while treatment continues and is currently serving our medical staff. He has been moved to a wheelchair. Eastlee allows us to report on the player himself who sent our best wishes.
“JB is taken from the field of play – we hope for a quick recovery and update our supporters when necessary.
Another update: “Jean Belehouan returns to the dressing room after treatment and continues his evaluation and monitoring. At this stage, JB appears to be responding well to the test.
