Hugo Ekitike enjoys an impressive start to his life in Liverpool, but may be overlooked once again by France.
Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitique is set to be snabbed again by France despite an impressive start to the season.
Ekitike moved to Anfield for a deal that could rise to £79 million in the summer and quickly made its investment. He scored twice in many Premier League matches and was also a target in the Community Shield.
However, it doesn’t seem enough for the 2018 World Cup winner to convince Didier Deschamps to get him in with Les Bruce in preparation for this summer’s tournament. They played Ukraine for a week on Friday before holding Iceland four days later.
Deschamps will reveal his team on Wednesday, but Le Figaro claims he believes Ekitique will be “too early” to receive a call-up despite the French boss playing impressively in so many seasons throughout his seasons with Frankfurt and Liverpool.
As a result, Ekitike was able to rethink his play in Cameroon despite previously targeting the French team’s spots. The striker is eligible to play for both and may now turn his attention to the African nation.

Cameroon’s greatest World Cup effort of all time was to take the quarter-finals in 1990, losing to England. They are one of the most consistent African aspects and are currently sitting second in the qualification group behind Cape Valde. They played six of their last eight World Cups.
France will become one of the tournament land favourites when the game’s eyes descend to North America. Les Bruce has a stubborn offensive talent on the front line, with Real Madrid’s Killian Mbappe and PSG star Osmane Dembele.
The problem with Ekitike is the amount of competition behind them, and we understand that Deschamps sees Rayan Cherki from Manchester City, Michael Olise from Bayern Munich and Desire Doue, a youth at PSG.
Ekitike, who starts rapidly, can still see his role in Liverpool’s change, which could affect his goalscoring exploits. The 23-year-old came and led the Reds line, but they continued to pursue Alexander Isaac, and Ekitique admitted that he could play from the wings.
