“I remember always going to the Premier League with Burnley,” he explained. “We were promoted to the Premier League, but suddenly, when TV money comes in, it’s £100 million for a promoted team.
“And the rest of the teams will (and increase) all the way to the top, so from a budget of £25-3 million a year, the promoted teams will have a budget of £120 million, competing against Bundesliga’s top six.

“In Burnley, we were in the market for Frankfurt and Wolfsberg and players, and we just showed up. That’s the reality. Sunderland is currently competing with AC Milan by buying players from Leverkusen.
“It’s just a financial reality. Now, when you have that £100 million and you come to the Premier League, it means nothing because everyone else has more.
“It’s the nature of what they could develop there over the years, especially on television money and how they got promoted internationally. I don’t think it’s just a Bayern Munich debate. I think it’s a debate to find a way for the Bundesliga to stay competitive.
“The positive is that not every player who goes to the Premier League has five or six-year players who are the top players in the Bundesliga.
“They went after a year or two, so this year means there’s more players coming, and they’re going to be new superstars. I don’t think there’s a lack of quality.”
