Marcus Rashford is firmly in the battle for World Cup choices following “major career transformations.” England manager Thomas Tuschel has expressed his strong gratitude to Rashford by leading overwhelming support and making him the sole representative of Manchester United to tackle Andorra and Serbia.
The 27-year-old forward is now being loaned out to Barcelona by his parent club, and this very bold move has attracted Tuchel’s attention and secured his inclusion as one of three candidates that can be manipulated on his left flank. Arsenal rookie Ebeki Eze and Newcastle Anthony Gordon also appear in this heavily contested position, but Rashford appears to have an advantage.
Tuchel continued to be committed to improving his performance by revealing his satisfaction when he brought Rashford back to the fold last season and promoting an over-season loan switch to Barcelona.
Tuchel commented:
“I wanted to encourage him and give him as positive feedback. I gave him this camp and a call. He missed the second camp for us. Now he has made a big difference in a new football culture, a new country.
“But he already started the Barcelona match and I wanted to continue him. It’s one position with three players. After a long discussion, I decided to take three players to this position.
“It’s EBS, Anthony, Marcus. I think Marcus gave us one-on-one. He gives us the ability to finish with both feet.
Touchel was shocked by omitting Trent Alexander Arnold, but Kyle Walker is also absent, potentially leaving him left behind in the 96 cap without a Jack Grelish recall.
But when it comes to the new face, DJed Spence receives his opportunity, but Elliot Anderson also won his maiden senior call-up with the specific notion that England is looking for a fresh midfield anchor to offer Declan Rice a bigger license to roam.
It also includes Adam Wharton.
Tuchel explained: “It depends on how Adam presents himself, and how Elliot presents himself. They now have a huge opportunity. They are a little different players.
“Is the structure the same for Andorra and Belgrade? The physicality and individual qualities and styles of the teams we play are very different — what we face in Belgrade and Birmingham. We also want to see them.
“We value training so highly, we make this decision when we come to the game. All four no-6 and no-8 players we choose are open in any mix.
Meanwhile, Tuchel also confessed that a trip to the US for the Club World Cup this summer gave him much to reflect ahead of next year.
Tuchel said: “It was incredibly hot. It was very hot to train and play, and it was very hostile. Knowing that is one thing, feeling it is another thing, seeing it is another thing.
“So basically… it was a confirmation of what we were thinking. The distance is huge, it’s humid and it’s very hot.”
