Newcastle is on the verge of signing striker Nick Ultemed from Stuttgart for £65 million, and the 23-year-old was targeted by Bayern Munich this summer

Bayern Munich reportedly was surprised and disappointed after missing out on signing Nick Urtemade, who will be joining Newcastle instead. Magpies have agreed to a £65 million deal with Woltemade’s Stuttgart, who scored 17 goals in all competitions last season.

Woltemade also appeared in Germany at the Under-21 European Championships this summer, scoring six goals and providing three assists, earning it all the way to the final before losing to England.

Germany reports said Bayern were convinced that Ultemed joined them this summer and that Newcastle’s move had surprised them. The report also points out that Woltemade is considered the successor to Alexander Isak.

The move could pave the way for Isaac to eventually complete his move to Liverpool, with Newcastle rejecting the striker’s £110 million bid earlier this summer. Isak is pushing for the move to Anfield and reiterated his desire to quit the showdown talks with the club chief on Monday.

The 25-year-old broke his silence in the Saga earlier this month, releasing a statement on social media accusing Newcastle of breaking his promise. “I kept quiet for a long time while others were talking,” Isaac said.

“That silence allowed people to push events at the event, even though they knew that they didn’t really reflect what they were told, but they knew they had agreed to it behind a closed room. The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time.

“Now, behaving as if these issues are emerging is misleading. If the promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot last.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has given him an update on the situation after a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Liverpool, and has admitted he wants to “move forward.” Hau said:

“The ideal from Newcastle’s point of view is that we want to clarify, we want to move forward. We want to change the story. We’re the beginning of this season, we need to try to get results and focus on what we can control.

“Alex’s quality would have made a difference between the two games. I’m not going to deny that. But I said that even if every part of the team doesn’t work well, the team works well and performance doesn’t happen.”
