Shortly after the penalty shotout loss at Blundell Park, Amorin said his players “were really loud about what they wanted” in their awful performances. It was widely interpreted as Amorim, suggesting that after nine months of charge, his players showed that they had lost faith in him and his methods.
However, Amorim admitted that his remarks were made in the heat of the moment and would not be taken at face value, allowing him to make him better after a great upset.
“Sometimes I hate players, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I want to protect my players,” Amorim said. “Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years. Sometimes I love my players.
“This is my way and I’m going to be like that. I was frustrated and irritated. I know there are a lot of experienced players who say I should be more calm. But who am I?
“I felt like the preseason was really good. We played badly against Fulham for 30 minutes, so I was really disappointed with everything.”
