Real Betis has issued a statement declaring that they have withdrawn their £21.6 million offer to Antony despite agreeing with Manchester United to return.

Antony shined by lending at a Spanish club late last season, leading them to the UEFA Conference League final, where they were beaten by Chelsea. He returned to Manchester this summer as part of the club’s so-called “bomb squad” – featuring Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, and is hoping to return to Seville.

Betis made it clear that United didn’t want another straight loan as he felt he couldn’t get the funds needed to make the transaction. However, this week’s Spaniard pushed the boat out to agree to terms with United.

The player whose £81.3 million paid to Ajax three years ago was agreed to a fee of £21.6 million, but there was an add-on of £2.6 million. United also scored 50% of the profit Betis made on the potential future sales of the 25-year-old, which remains United’s all-time signature, after Paul Pogba.

Nevertheless, the deal with United was officially outlined, but there were issues that needed to be sorted – in particular, Antony’s salary and the cuts he was trying to undertake, cannot match the £6 million per year that Betis paid at Old Trafford.

He remained in his deal for two years and wanted to agree to a deal that would ensure the club didn’t overlook his money – it was believed to be around £5 million. Neither Betis nor United wanted to make up for the difference, and Antony is thought to have no desire to abandon it. Therefore, despite the agreed fees, the transaction was left at Limbo.

Later, amid leaks from both sides, Betis issued a statement late Friday night: “There was no agreement and it retracted the offer of transfer because Real Betis cannot afford transfer fees and the amount Manchester United has to pay (instead) the player before transfer.”

At Old Trafford, they believe it is merely a negotiation tactic.

Kobbie Mainoo is another issue United will need to look after before the transfer deadline on Monday.

Mine, who was removed from Thomas Tuschel’s latest three-man Lions team on Friday, was told by Reuben Amorim that he will only play this season, where Bruno Fernandez is not available. That’s why I want to leave the 20-year-old.

Miller Football revealed on Friday that it had blocked a permanent switch to Napoli, but he was asked to be allowed to be loaned out for regular actions.

Amorim responded at his previous Burnley press conference on Friday, declaring that he “please stay with Cobbie,” Amorim said. “He needs to fight for his place and he needs Cobby.

“So it won’t change. The rest don’t know how it will end.

“I understand that players who aren’t playing in this moment are disappointed. But everyone will have the same opportunity. You have to fight that week.”

But that’s not enough for Mainoo, responding to his manager’s comments, repeating his desire to leave at regular game times this weekend, before the 7pm deadline on Monday.
