Liverpool is looking to bolster their defense this summer, with Crystal Palace captain Mark Guech being their top goal and signing an international English contract next summer
Liverpool is still pushing to sign Mark Guech in a £700 million transfer tug-of-war at Crystal Palace. Palace Chairman Steve Parish suggests that they are ready to sell despite already losing Ebebeki Eze, who is set to join Arsenal in a £67.5 million deal.
However, the palace boss, Oliver Glasner, insisted that he could not afford to allow Guech to leave Selhurst Park in such a late stage of the window when it was difficult to replace him.
And at the heart of the dilemma is the palace’s fear that he could lose Guech for free next summer after turning down an English defender’s £700 million bid last summer.
As Newcastle was ready to break the bank and sign Guehi, who has only one year left on the contract, that decision could come back to bother them.
Despite the uncertainty, Liverpool is keen on Guehi and ready to make a deal before the end of this window, but will not pay the odds as he knows he will become a free agent next summer.

It’ll be hard to see Liverpool pay more than £30 million this summer, but the palace is cherishing him at nearly £405 million with his contract falling apart. “It’s a difficult situation and everyone has to sell their players to adhere to the rules,” Parrish warned.
Glasner highly valued Guehi as both the player and his captain and leader, who are even more important now that Eze is gone.
Glasner spoke after his victory over Freddixtad in Palace’s Europa Conference League on Thursday night, saying, “If Marc leaves, I’ll try the boots because I was a centre-back. We have to act. It’s the future of Crystal Palace and we need to add numbers.”
Liverpool is still in contact with Guech, who he considers as a powerful, skilled, composed defender with a big future at Anfield.
Despite spending a lot of time this summer, they sold players, but they have ranged to sign Guehi and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak before the windows close.
But likewise, they will not be bound by ransom, as they know they can move in next year and take him for free.
Palace concerns about Guech were heightened by Eze’s imminent departure as the English star signed Arsenal this weekend and prepares to receive medical care and complete his move.
