Bruno Fernandez’s response speaks volume as a humiliating person by Grimsby | Soccer | Sports

Bruno Fernandez was able to barely contain his shock as Manchester United suffered the nightmare opening of the second round of the Carabao Cup meet at Grimsby.

The Red Devils skipper was named among the alternatives, and Reuben Amorim chose to give Cobby Minee the departure berth.

However, the Premier League heavyweight faced embarrassment during the opening period, delaying 2-0 to League 2 hosts.

Charles Burnham first broke the deadlock and found a net to put the home side first.

Fernandez appears to be devastated by the defensive lapse of his team, with television footage buried in his face in the palm of his hand.

The matter got worse as Tyrrell Warren takes advantage of an error from Andre Onana, who was handed a rare opportunity amidst doubts surrounding his future, and returns home after just 30 minutes.

Boss Amorim found himself facing surveillance following the beginning of his tenure at Old Trafford.

He has been able to collect 28 points in 29 league matches since taking over from Erik Ten Hag last November.

United invested £200 million to revamp their offensive options during the summer transfer period, but they poorly started the 2025-26 season by ensuring only one point from their first two outings.

The Red Devils concluded their previous campaign with their 15th position – their most disappointing Premier League show – and club legend Wayne Rooney may soon find themselves fighting to maintain their position recently, declaring that Amorim has “excuses” about the current struggle.

“The manager has no excuses now this season,” the 39-year-old told his BBC podcast, Wayne Rooney Show.

“He gets results and when he starts to enter November, November, if the outcome doesn’t change dramatically, that’s because that puts pressure on him.

“United really needs to hit the ground this season, and I’m worried about six to one point. We only have two games in the season, but the worrying sign is seeing what we saw last season, and that’s what we’re worried about.”

Benjamin Sesco, Mateus Cunha and Brian Mbeumo dived into a costly forwarding to strengthen United’s forward line.

However, the 20-time British champion, who lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final in May, wasted a spot kick after a 1-0 loss at home by Arsenal over the opening weekend, dumping the advantage in a 1-1 stalemate at Fulham.

When questioning whether Amorim was the right choice for the future, Rooney replied: “It’s hard to sit here and say ‘Yeah 100%’ – I don’t think anyone can do that.

“You’d think Reuben would say himself in what he saw from when he was at the club.

“I think the recruitment was good in the summer. I’d like to see two or three more players coming in.”

“But, “It’s difficult to say that), “Yes, this will be our manager for what we see for the next five years.” ”
