Benjamin Sesco endured a slow start to life with Manchester United, but Red Devils icon Gary Neville believes he has the perfect plan to speed up the striker in the end
Gary Neville believes Benjamin Sesco is “not anywhere” to the level he needs for Manchester United, but he still thinks he should start with his next game. The 22-year-old Sesko has benched each with the Red Devils opening two Premier League matches following a £74 million switch from RB Leipzig.
He has come as an alternative to both Arsenal and Fulham – United have scored only once so far this season. However, he had a limited influence on both cameo appearances.
United icon Neville believes the striker is still speeding up in terms of fitness and suggests passing the first start with Grimsbytown in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
Speaking about Gary Neville’s podcast, the former defender said: “Sesco at the moment – let’s say that. He’s nowhere in terms of fitness and speeding up. There’s clearly a cry to play him.
“(Amorim) has to compete with Sesko against Grimsby and give him 90 minutes so he knows he needs football so he has to make sure he can play (from the start) from next Saturday.

“What you can’t do is cite the player that’s worth it, the possibilities and just be on the bench. The problem he has is that Mason wants to mount it on his team.
“But when Sesco came in and Mount went into the middle and took off Casemiro, they were open and it looked like Fulham would score.”
Sesko scored 21 goals for Leipzig last season. But that hasn’t happened so far throughout the start of the season when he saw Reuben Amorim’s side score one point.

The United boss asked why he chose to bench his new advance for his second consecutive game. “We tried to imagine what would happen during the game.
“Our team needs to be consistent in how they control the game and have the option to play another game on the bench. Sesko took us two weeks for us. He is trying to understand everything. We need to wait a little to help the players. We just want to win the game and help all the players.”
