Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandez was unhappy with referee Chris Cabana just before he missed the penalty in a 1-1 draw with Fulham
Bruno Fernandez refused to blame Chris Cabana for a penalty mistake in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United’s Fulham after the referee accidentally hit him just before his spot kick – but was impressed by Cabana’s failed apology.
The Red Devils were awarded a penalty by Cabana after being told to consider a case involving Mason Mount and Calvin Bassy who saw the former being pulled to the ground by their opponents during the corners of the first half. However, Fernandez couldn’t take advantage of the perfect opportunity to break the impasse and let his efforts slide on the crossbar.
Sky Sports prepared to take a penalty that seemed to have frustrated the Manchester United captain, pointing out that Cabana accidentally hit Fernandez.
Fernandez then admits that he was unhappy that Cabana had not apologized, but he was blamed for his disappearance from the scene.

When asked whether the incident had an impact on his concentration after the Sky Sports match, Fernandez replied: “Yeah, I was upset.
“It upset me because the referee didn’t apologise. That was what caused me in that moment. But it’s not an excuse to miss the penalty. I had a very bad hit on the ball. I also took my foot under the ball.

Gary Neville responded to the incident during Sky Sports commentary, noting that Cabana may have inadvertently influenced Fernandez’s concentration. Neville said:
“I thought it was because the referee was adjusting the player at the edge of the box, but he’s still out for the referee because he finds it a bit clumsy.”
