Former QPR star Andy Sington is recovering at the hospital after suffering a heart attack Friday, his previous club announced. Thington played for many Premier League clubs in his career, including Wednesdays for Tottenham and Sheffield, but most fans remember him in his four-year spell at QPR.
The 59-year-old suffered a heart attack Friday, QPR said, but added that he is now on his path to recovery with posts on their social media channels.
In a statement, Hoops said: “On Friday evening, our club ambassador, Andy Sington, suffered a heart attack and I’m happy to say he’s recovering from the hospital right now.
Tottenham also sent out their well wishes, as he wrote on Twitter: “Get well soon, Andy. Send the best wishes of all your Spurs family.”
It came in the wake of QPR’s fierce 7-1 defeat to Coventry, as fans said the news had put the outcome in sight and wanted him to recover quickly.
In a Twitter post, one fan wrote:
Another said: “I’ll put it all in perspective. I was furious about the outcome yesterday, but I’m reading this about my first @QPR idol yesterday.
Sington won 12 caps for England during his career from 1991 to 1993 and played under Graham Taylor at the 1992 European Championships in Sweden.
His football journey began in Cambridge, then moved to Brentford in 1989, and eventually moved to QPR. He made 83 appearances for the Spurs in late 1999, won the League Cup in 1999, then moved to Wolves in the Football League, finishing his career with Burton, Bromsgrove and Fleettown.
He was at the helm of the fleet for five years before managing AFC Telford from 2010 to 2013.
Most recently, he served as QPR ambassador and provided commentary to internal media channels.
