Jack Grelish is lined up for his Everton debut with Leeds on Monday.
David Moys hopes to be able to rekindle Jack Grelish’s magic, and cites Jesse Lingard as an example of how he proves that he can do it. Everton kicked off the campaign in Leeds on Monday and signed a loan signed in the competition for his debut.
The Manchester City and the British midfielder lost favour to boss Pep Guardiola and played only the 715 Premier League last season. But now he’s joining Everton and trying to do his best in the World Cup coming next summer. Moys hopes he can do what he did with the Lingard when he signed him on loan from Manchester United at West Ham in 2021.
The Everton boss said: “I think you say there’s Jack Grelish who played for Aston Villa. There’s someone who played for Manchester City. There’s someone who saw him play for England.

“Jesse Lingard is an example. If he can be as successful as this year, that’s great. I think he’s putting a lot of pressure on Jack, just putting all the pressure on who he is anyway.
Moys didn’t speak to Guardiola before completing the Greil movement, but was sure he would be taking part in this summer for a while. The Scots said:
“My choice is to think he can bring us something he doesn’t have, a little more talent and hopefully more creativity to our offensive line. The knowledge that he thinks he has a little to prove and a bit to get up. I personally had to do it myself.
“I feel like Jack is carrying it now, and I hope it shows throughout this season, because if that’s the case, we’ll get a lot of good things from Jack.”

The Moyes are looking to rebuild Everton’s team after a massive departure of first-team players at the end of last season. He brought in Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Thierno Barry, Adam Aznou, Mark Travers and Carlos Alcaraz.
Moys added: “I think the club went brilliantly to build a new stadium. It took years, but in the end we went there and did it. Now I think we need to go back to where it is in it and, more importantly, get the team back, or get closer to where it should be.
“We’re a long way to go at the moment. I don’t think we can do that in this window and create what we want for our team, but we need people along the journey to make it more exciting and make people want to come and play.
“Whether it’s a well-known player or a league position, the way we play, and through our performances, we now need some of them to give us a lift. The players I was disappointed in have been quite a few who didn’t choose to come to Everton this summer.
“Hopefully they’ll start seeing a new stadium later last season. They’ll start to believe Everton is a good home for them.”
