Reuben Amorim began a very tough life as manager of Manchester United.

Sean Dish claims that Manchester United’s manager will be a better manager than Reuben Amorim. Despite being known for his nonsense and old-fashioned style, the former Everton and Burnley bosses believe they’ll excel at a club like United if given a chance.

“I might get hammered for that, but playing 4-4-2 with that team must be able to win more games,” Dish told Sam Aladdis, manager of En England, not a Tippy Tappy Football Podcast. “People keep talking about his (Amorim’s) philosophy and it’s not working. It’s fine to get to five or ten games, but once you get to 20 games, it clearly doesn’t work.”

After nine months in the Old Trafford hot seat, Amorim scored 16 of 16 of his 43 games in charge, giving him a victory percentage of just 37%. He also struggles to implement the fluid, high octane style that defined his sports CP side, and United’s team finds it difficult to adapt to Amorim’s three back systems.

To address this, United threw over £200 million on the brand new front 3 this summer, and spent £26 million on Patrick Dorg, a wing back suitable for Amorim’s style. Dyche thinks this is evidence that United currently doesn’t have a team to play in the Amorim way, but he praised the club and its head coach for sticking to their principles.

“I might be wrong because they brought in three big hitters this summer, so that didn’t work out the players they had, but perhaps the new players will be better,” he said.

“On the one hand, I like the fact that they’re sticking to it, and it’s Man United. You’re under a lot of pressure to get it right. But on the other hand, you don’t usually survive that situation. Amorims are given more time than most.

“In his first season of PEP, he has forgotten that he made so many changes to his team, played many formations and finished 13 points from the top. No one blinked.

Dyche’s record in the Premier League shows his ability to perform with limited resources. At Burnley, he consistently transformed a modest team into a trained and competitive team, avoiding relegation and even approaching European qualifications.

His team, despite financial and squad constraints, beat hits were always difficult, well organized, and able to exceed expectations.

At Everton, Dish faced a variety of challenges and navigated financial issues while still maintaining competitiveness and stability. His practical and hardworking approach allowed him to keep his team steady and focused, even when expectations are low.

But despite these achievements, Dutche has never been given the opportunity to manage an elite club that can play vast and offensive football. It’s hard to say whether his confidence in successfully implementing the 4-4-2 system at United is completely justified, but his track record of achieving under limiting circumstances speaks volume.

The Red Devils risked much of last season near the relegation zone, losing 18 times and finishing 15th in the table. Amorim hopes to get much better this season, but despite improved performance, his United side began a new season with a 1-0 loss to Arsenal.
